The popular messaging app WhatsApp has publicised it intention to stop support for some smartphones,warning they'll no longer be able to use the app in the coming year.
The facebook-owned app will stop working on smartphones with older operating system.
With over 1.5 billion monthly active users,the app will not be accessible to users that can't upgrade their smartphones OS.
As published in a blog post by the company saying: "if you currently use an older operating system, we recommend upgrading to a newer version"
Starting from December later this year, the Nokia S40 won't be able to get WhatsApp support.
The following smartphones users will be affected in Nigeria namely:
Galaxy mini plus,HTC Evo 4G+,Huawei Mercury M886 and others running on Andrid 2.3 operating system or lesser.
In addition, the operating system of th phones listed below will not receive WhatsApp support.
1.Nokia Symbian S60
2.BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10
3.iPhone 3GS /iOS6
4.Android version older than 2.3.3
5.Window phone 8.0 and older.
The post added that the users of the following devices won't be allow to created a new account and some features may stop working any moment.
*Nokia S40 until December this year.
*iOS7 and older until February, 2020
*Android versions 2.3.7 and older until February, 2020.
However,WhatsApp advised the users to upgrade to a newer version of window phone 8.1+,Android running operating system 4.0+ and iPhone running iOS8+.
